For general stick and MIG work at a steady current, a fixed shade helmet keeps things simple. The EMTOP EWHT0102 darkens automatically to shade 11 and needs no dial setting before a run, which makes it a sensible choice for workshops issuing helmets to several hands and for welders who work mainly at one range.

Switching takes 1/5000 of a second from light to dark, and the lens clears again automatically over 0.15 to 0.45 seconds. Two arc sensors trigger the cartridge, power is fully automatic with no switch to forget, and the cell runs from solar cells backed by replaceable lithium batteries. Even in the light state the filter holds DIN 16 UV and infrared protection, so the eyes stay shielded before the arc strikes.

The 90 x 35mm viewing area is set in a 110 x 90 x 10mm cartridge, the standard size that keeps spare cover lenses easy to source. It handles fabrication, gates and grilles, structural repair and low amperage TIG from 20 amps on AC or DC.
