Brushless motors changed what a cordless drill can be asked to do: no brushes to wear, less heat, and more of the battery's energy reaching the chuck. This 20V impact drill produces 60Nm of maximum torque and takes a 13mm chuck, so it drives large screws and coach bolts and drills timber, steel and masonry within one tool.

A mechanical two-speed gearbox gives 0-450rpm for torque and 0-1900rpm for drilling, and the hammer action reaches 22500 impacts per minute for holes in block and concrete. Twenty-three torque settings plus drill and hammer positions let you set the clutch to the fastening rather than judging it by ear. An integrated work light illuminates the hole and an LED indicator shows remaining battery charge. Two 2.0Ah packs and a charger are supplied, so one battery is always ready.

Electricians, plumbers, ceiling and partition fitters, and shopfitters get the most from a machine like this, where mains power is inconvenient and a corded drill would be overkill.
