Ripping sheet material and cutting timber to length on site is what a circular saw does better than anything else, and 1400W behind a 185mm blade at 4800rpm handles the sections a carpenter meets daily. Depth of cut is 65mm at 90 degrees, enough for two-by-four framing timber in a single pass, and 45mm with the base tilted to 45 degrees.

Both the depth and the bevel angle adjust, so rebates, mitres and part-depth cuts are set on the tool rather than improvised. A 185mm blade is supplied with the saw, along with a spare set of carbon brushes, which are the wear part on any universal motor and the difference between a quick change and a stopped job. The saw runs on a 220-240V supply and takes blades that are widely available for timber, board and other materials.
