The crown is 5.7mm across in 18 gauge, using 1.25 x 1.0mm wire, so the fixing pulls tight without cutting through plywood, hardboard, fabric or membrane. Compared with the 25mm staple, the extra leg length matters where the top layer may lift or where a temporary fixing has to hold under handling.
