There is still no substitute for a hand saw when one cut is needed and setting up a power tool would take longer than making it. A hand saw works anywhere, needs no supply and gives full control over the last few strokes of a cut.

Carpenters use one for trimming studs, battens, skirting, sheet material and rough timber on site. Mark the line clearly, start the cut with the blade drawn back against the thumb, then lengthen the stroke and let the weight of the saw do the work.
