Simplicity is the argument for this model. The EHGN20002 gives two hot settings, 480 and 560 degrees Celsius, and leaves it at that, which suits a buyer who wants a heat gun for stripping and shrinking rather than a fine range of temperatures.

Both settings are driven by a 2000W element from a 220-240V supply, with airflow of 250 litres per minute on the lower step and 380 on the higher, so the operator trades between a gentle stream that will not scorch and a stronger one that works faster on a large surface. Three nozzles are supplied: a reduction nozzle for pinpoint heat, a reflector nozzle for pipe and cable, and a flat nozzle for spreading across a panel. A scraper comes with the gun for clearing softened coatings.

It handles paint and varnish removal from doors, frames and railings, shrinking sleeve on cable terminations, softening old adhesive, sealant and floor tiles, freeing seized fittings, and warming plastic pipe before a bend.
