A split in the middle of a hose does not mean the hose is finished. Cutting out the damaged section and joining the two good ends with a mender restores a full working length, and this fitting does exactly that for 1/2" hose.

Gardeners, nurseries, car wash operators, farms and groundskeeping crews all get through hose, usually because it has been driven over, kinked at the same point once too often, or nicked by a blade. The mender is moulded in plastic, so it will not corrode where it sits in wet soil, and it pushes into both cut ends to be secured with clips or the moulded collars.
