Hand pruning shear measuring 8.5 in (220mm), the size most gardeners work with for stems, roses, fruit wood and soft growth. It is built for repeated daily use rather than occasional trimming, so it suits nurseries, landscapers and grounds teams as well as households.

An entire metal frame carries the load through the pivot instead of relying on a moulded body, which is the main reason a shear of this pattern lasts. The blade is SK5 steel, heat treated and given a PTFE coating so sap releases rather than gumming the edge, while the PP handle covered with a TPR grip keeps the tool secure in a wet hand.

Use it for deadheading, thinning, taking cuttings, harvesting and general shaping. Wipe the blade after use and store it closed to hold the edge between sharpenings. Cut at a slight angle just above a bud or side shoot, and resist twisting the shear on a stem too thick for it, which is what springs the frame out of alignment.
