Water pump pliers at 10 in (250mm), the general-purpose gripping tool plumbers, pump technicians and maintenance crews carry for nuts, fittings, round stock and anything a spanner will not fit. The slip joint steps the jaw open in stages while keeping both handles in the same comfortable span.

Chrome vanadium steel gives the jaws the hardness to hold their serrations, and the head is finished in black and polished. A TPR three-colour handle delivers a strong, comfortable grip, which matters when the pliers are used to break a tight compression nut or a corroded fitting.

Maximum clamping opening is 40mm, enough for common tap connectors, waste fittings, hose tails and light pipework. Angle the jaws to the work so the pull comes onto the flats and the tool is far less likely to slip. Adjust the slip joint until the jaws sit parallel on the fitting before force is applied, as a jaw at an angle grips on two points and rounds off the flats.
