Half-inch drive ratchet handle measuring 260mm, the workhorse of a socket set for vehicle servicing, plant maintenance and steel assembly. The 1/2 in square drive takes the socket sizes used on wheel nuts, engine mountings, pump flanges and structural bolts.

A 72-tooth mechanism needs only five degrees of swing before the next tooth engages, so the wrench keeps working in a confined engine bay or beside a bracket where a coarser ratchet would stall. Construction combines chrome vanadium and chrome molybdenum steel, heat treated, and the three-colour soft handle gives grip when hands are oily.

Use it with impact or hand sockets for tightening and releasing fasteners, and add an extension bar or universal joint to reach recessed bolts. Keep the head clean and occasionally work a little light oil into the mechanism. Push the drive fully home until it clicks into the socket before loading it, and reach for a breaker bar rather than slipping a tube over the handle when a fastener refuses to move.
