Wall board saw with a 150mm blade and a pointed nose, made for plunging straight into plasterboard and cutting an opening without a pilot hole. Dry liners, electricians and ceiling fitters use one whenever a socket box, downlight or access panel has to be let into a finished board.

The blade is 65Mn steel with heat treated teeth at 8 teeth per inch, ground as triple teeth on three edges so it cuts on the push as well as the pull. That combination gets through gypsum board, soft timber, plastic panel and insulation without the blade wandering off the pencil line.

Its narrow profile turns inside a cut, which is what allows a tight rectangle to be formed for a back box. Keep the strokes short and let the teeth clear the dust rather than forcing the blade. Check for cables and pipes before plunging into a board, since a blind cut into a stud wall can find a circuit that has not been isolated.
