Silicone sealant prices in Kenya (2026): what you pay and why

In Kenya, a 280 ml cartridge of general-purpose silicone costs from about KSh 170 to KSh 450 a piece, a 590 to 600 ml sausage of neutral glazing silicone from KSh 450 to KSh 950, and buying by the carton brings the per-piece price down further. The main things that change the price are the pack size, the grade (specialist neutral grades for mirrors and weather sealing sit at the top), and whether the maker publishes a full technical data sheet. For a typical 6 mm bead, the sealant itself costs between roughly KSh 20 and KSh 60 per metre.

Prices checked on 13 October 2026. These are the prices on our own store today, in Kenya shillings, for the silicone and acrylic sealants we stock. Prices change with stock and exchange rates, so check the product page before you order.

"Per piece in a carton" is simply the carton price divided by the number of pieces in it. Where the type column says "general purpose" or "100% silicone", that is how the maker describes it; the cure chemistry is not stated on the pack information we hold, so ask us before using it on a mirror, natural stone or bare metal.

What drives the price

Cure type

Cure type decides what a sealant can safely go on more than it decides the price. Acetic (acetoxy) silicone is the standard general-purpose tube for tile, glass and sanitary joints. Neutral-cure silicone does not release acid while curing, so it can go on aluminium, stone, concrete and mirrors. In our list, the specialist neutral grades (the 900N mirror adhesive and the 915N weatherseal) are the most expensive per piece, but per millilitre 915N costs about the same as the acetic Akfix 100E, so do not assume neutral is always the dearer option. If you are not sure which you need, our guide on which silicone sealant to use walks through each job.

Cartridge or sausage

The 590 to 600 ml sausages give you roughly twice the sealant of a 280 ml cartridge for a similar or slightly higher price, which is why aluminium and glazing fabricators buy them. You need a sausage (barrel) gun to use them, not the standard cartridge skeleton gun, so factor that in if you are buying for a single job.

Price per millilitre makes the comparison fair. ABC GP Fast-Curing at KSh 170 for 280 ml is about KSh 0.61 per ml. ABC GP Structural at KSh 450 for 590 ml is about KSh 0.76 per ml. Akfix 915N at KSh 950 for 600 ml is about KSh 1.58 per ml, and Akfix 100E at KSh 450 for 280 ml is about KSh 1.61 per ml.

Published data and certification

Some makers publish a full technical data sheet with skin time, cure rate, temperature range, movement capability and consumption tables. Akfix's data sheet for 915N, for example, lists CE marking to EN 15651 for facade, glazing and sanitary use and ISO 11600 F and G 20LM classification; the sheet for 100E lists CE marking to EN 15651. When a consultant or a facade specification calls for a sealant with a named standard, that documentation is part of what you are paying for. For a straightforward reseal at home, a general-purpose tube is often all you need.

Buying by the carton

On the products above, a carton saves between KSh 10 and KSh 50 a piece. On a site using a carton a week, that adds up. Pattex SL212 is sold by the carton of 24 only.

Cost per metre: a worked example

Sealant is used by volume, so work out the volume of your bead first.

Bathroom reseal. A standard 6 mm wide by 6 mm deep bead has a cross-section of 6 × 6 = 36 mm². One metre of it is 36 mm² × 1,000 mm = 36,000 mm³, which is 36 ml. A 280 ml cartridge therefore runs about 280 ÷ 36 = 7.8 metres before waste. Akfix's own consumption table for 100E gives about 8 metres for a 6 × 6 mm joint from a 310 ml cartridge, which is in the same range.

  • At KSh 170 a cartridge, that is about 170 ÷ 7.8 = KSh 22 per metre.
  • At KSh 450 a cartridge, about 450 ÷ 7.8 = KSh 58 per metre.

A bath, a shower tray and a basin might need 8 metres in total. 8 × 36 ml = 288 ml, plus about 10% for the nozzle, mistakes and tooling, gives roughly 320 ml, so buy two 280 ml cartridges.

Window perimeter joints. Akfix recommends a 10 mm wide joint about 6 mm deep for 915N. That is 10 × 6 = 60 mm², or 60 ml per metre. A 600 ml sausage runs about 600 ÷ 60 = 10 metres before waste, so 915N at KSh 950 works out at about KSh 95 per metre. Forty metres of window perimeter needs 40 × 60 = 2,400 ml plus 10%, about 2,640 ml, which is five 600 ml sausages.

The 10% waste figure is our working assumption, not a manufacturer's number. Wide or uneven joints use more, and a backer rod in deep joints saves sealant.

How to spend less without a worse result

  • Match the product to the joint. Paying for neutral silicone on a tiled splashback gains nothing; using acetic silicone on a mirror costs a mirror.
  • Use a backer rod in deep joints rather than filling the full depth with sealant.
  • Cut the nozzle to the joint width, not wider.
  • Buy by the carton when you will use it up within the shelf life printed on the box.
  • For painted walls and cracks in plaster, an acrylic sealant does the job and can be painted over.

Common questions

Why is a 600 ml sausage almost the same price as a 280 ml cartridge?

Part of the difference is packaging: a sausage is a thin foil wrap rather than a rigid plastic tube. Per millilitre, the sausages in our list cost less than most of the branded cartridges. You do need a sausage gun to use it.

How many cartridges do I need for one bathroom?

Measure the joints in metres and multiply by 36 ml for a 6 × 6 mm bead, then add about 10%. Most bathrooms need one or two 280 ml cartridges.

Is the more expensive silicone always better?

Not for every job. You pay more for specialist grades, documented performance and specific approvals. If your job does not need those, a general-purpose sealant used on a clean, dry joint will do the work.
