About this product

Pattex PUR, Henkel article 2586596, is a one-component polyurethane wood adhesive that cures on moisture, and it is the water-resistance answer in this range: Henkel classifies it D4 to DIN EN 204, the highest durability class. It also bonds materials a PVA wood glue cannot — wood to metal, to concrete, to polystyrene foam and to other non-porous substrates — and Henkel publishes a service range of −30 °C to +100 °C.

This is the glue for exterior joinery, windows and doors, laminating, and anything that will get wet or see weather. It will take slightly damp surfaces, which a white wood glue will not. It is also fast: open time is two minutes at most, so cut, fit and dry-assemble everything before you spread any glue, and have the cramps set and ready. Fifteen to twenty minutes under cramps is Henkel's minimum, varying with the conditions on the day.

Sold by the full carton. This is a diisocyanate product — it contains diphenylmethane-4,4′-diisocyanate, and Henkel's own hazard wording is set out below. Read it, ventilate, and wear gloves: cured polyurethane comes off skin mechanically, not with water.

Hazards — Henkel's published wording

“Harmful. Contains Diphenylmethane-4,4′-Diisocyanate. Harmful by inhalation. Irritating to eyes, respiratory system and skin.” Use with ventilation and protective equipment, and keep away from children. Ask us for the safety data sheet before you first use it on site.

Henkel also publishes, for reactive polyurethane products containing more than 0.1% diisocyanate, that since August 2023 a user must be able to demonstrate personal training in safe handling on request, and points to the FEICA training tool at www.feica.eu/PUinfo. If your crew works with polyurethane adhesives or foams regularly, that training is worth having on file.
