Ceiling fan prices in Kenya (2026) and how to pick the right size

A good ceiling fan in Kenya costs about KSh 3,500. Our MODI MD-HWF2004 56-inch ceiling fan, with a 90W full-copper motor and five speeds, is KSh 3,500 a piece, or KSh 9,450 for a carton of three. If a ceiling fan won't work in the room, MODI 16-inch wall, orbit and stand fans cost KSh 3,500 each and a 16-inch desk fan KSh 3,080. A 6-inch clip fan is KSh 1,540, and metal exhaust fans run from KSh 2,100 to KSh 2,660. The right choice depends on the room size, the ceiling height and where people actually sit.

Ceiling fan, wall fan or stand fan?

Ceiling fan: for living rooms and bedrooms

A ceiling fan moves air over the whole room from a fixed point and takes up no floor or wall space. The MODI MD-HWF2004 has a 56-inch sweep and a 90W motor. The motor is wound in 100% copper and runs on double ball bearings, which is what to look for in a fan that will run for hours. Five speeds take it from a quiet overnight breeze to clearing a hot room at midday. It runs on 220–240V 50Hz, weighs 2.2kg, comes in gold or silver, and suits standard, wooden and cement ceilings with the right fixing. It needs a fixed ceiling point and a wired supply, so budget for an electrician.

Wall and orbit fans: high ceilings and busy floors

Where the ceiling is very high or cluttered, a ceiling fan sits too far above people to help. A fan on the wall puts the air where they sit and keeps the floor clear. The MODI MD-HWF3001 runs at 1300rpm on 45W. The MD-HWF3002 orbit fan sweeps through a wide arc at 1400rpm, which suits halls, salons, dining areas and workshops. Both measure 430 × 500 × 320mm, so they can be mixed in one building. The 16-inch five-blade wall fan adds three speeds and a 90-degree oscillation you can lock to aim at one spot, such as a counter or workbench. It plugs into a two-pin socket.

Stand, desk and clip fans: no installation

For rented homes and offices, a fan that just plugs in is often the sensible buy. The MODI MD-HWF3003 stand fan is 1280mm tall and turns at an unhurried 1250rpm. The MD-HWF3014 desk fan puts 16 inches of fan on a counter or desk. The 6-inch clip fan clamps to a bed frame, shelf or stall pole and tilts through 180 degrees.

Exhaust fans: kitchens, washrooms, workshops

To take heat, steam or fumes out of a room, rather than move air around inside it, use an extractor. The MODI MD-HWF60 has a cast-iron blade and a metal safety net. It comes in 8-inch (246 × 246mm frame), 10-inch (290 × 290mm) and 12-inch (352 × 352mm) sizes. Choose by the wall or window opening you have.

What size ceiling fan for your room?

Fan makers don't publish room-size charts for these models, so treat the following as a general rule of thumb rather than a specification:

  • Small bedroom or office (up to about 3 × 3 m): a 56-inch ceiling fan on a low speed is plenty; a wall or stand fan also works.
  • Living room or large bedroom (about 4 × 4 m to 4 × 5 m): this is the room the 56-inch MD-HWF2004 is sized for, according to its own listing.
  • Long or open-plan rooms, halls and shops: one fan rarely reaches every corner. Use two ceiling fans spaced along the room, or a pair of wall or orbit fans on opposite walls.
  • Very high ceilings: a ceiling fan mounted high does little at floor level. Wall or orbit fans at head height usually work better.

Keep the blades well clear of the ceiling and of anyone's raised hand, and have a qualified electrician fix the mounting to the ceiling structure.

Controlling speed

The MD-HWF2004 has five speeds. To control a ceiling fan from the wall, fit a fan speed controller in place of a plain switch; ours are in dimmers and fan controllers. Matching MODI switch plates are explained in choosing the right socket and switch for each room. If you want a fan and a light in one fitting, see ceiling fan lights.
