PU foam prices in Kenya (2026): what you pay and why

In Kenya a can of PU foam costs between KSh 420 and KSh 1,240 at our Nairobi trade counter in October 2026. The cheapest cans are the IG STAR foams at KSh 420 to KSh 450; KNICKER, Proson and Akfix 606 sit in the middle at KSh 500 to KSh 750; Hauser, Akfix 805 and Henkel's Sista cost KSh 900 to KSh 1,240. Buying by the carton brings the price per can down further. The difference is mostly what you know about the can: the dearer brands publish yields, cure times and safety data, the budget ones publish very little.

Why one can costs more than another

What the maker publishes

Akfix publish real figures for the 805: a yield of 30 to 45 litres of foam per can depending on temperature and humidity, a tack-free time of about 7 minutes, full cure in 24 hours, and an application range of -2 °C to +30 °C. Henkel publish a full safety data sheet for Sista. The IG STAR, KNICKER and Proson pages describe what the foam is for but give no yield or cure figures. If you are pricing a tender or a specification that asks for data, that is worth paying for. For filling gaps on your own house, it usually is not.

How much foam is in the can

Cans are labelled in different ways, some by volume (750 ml), some by weight (700 g, 850 g, 900 g), and IG STAR quote gross weight, which includes the can itself. So two cans at the same price are not always the same amount of foam. Within one brand the comparison is easy: the IG-170 is 900 g gross against 700 g for the IG-150, for KSh 30 more.

What it is made for

Hauser describe the Basic as low post-expansion with a stable structure suitable for mounting doors, and recommend it for air conditioning units. Low post-expansion matters when you are setting a door frame, because foam that keeps growing after you have walked away can bow the frame. For packing cavities and pipe holes, any of the general foams will do.

Straw or gun

Every can in the table that states its applicator is a straw type: KNICKER, Akfix 606, Akfix 805 and Sista. The straw clips to the valve, so you do not need a foam gun. That keeps the job cheap for one-off work.

Piece or carton?

The carton saves money as soon as you need more than a few cans. With Akfix, a box of 12 805 cans is KSh 10,800, or KSh 900 a can against KSh 950 single. A box of 12 606 cans works out at KSh 700 a can against KSh 750. A contractor fitting doors across a block of flats will use a carton quickly; a homeowner sealing one door frame needs one or two cans.

Which one should you buy?

  • Lowest price for general gap filling: IG STAR IG-150 or IG-170, the latter for larger gaps.
  • Door and window frames at a mid price: KNICKER PU Foam, which KNICKER list for installing wooden, steel and PVC doors.
  • Door mounting where post-expansion matters: Hauser Basic.
  • Jobs that need published data: Akfix 805.

Whatever you buy, cured foam is not a finished joint. Akfix advise painting or coating foam used outdoors because it discolours in sunlight, and Henkel say unprotected foam breaks down in sunlight. Trim it back and seal over it: a weatherseal silicone such as Akfix 915N outside, a paintable acrylic such as Akfix AS606 inside. Our guide on how to use PU foam spray covers the application step by step, and adhesive vs silicone vs foam explains when foam is the wrong product.

Where to buy

Every foam above is in our PU foam collection; the KNICKER range is in the KNICKER collection and the Akfix range in the Akfix collection. Collect from our Nairobi trade counter at Royal Business Park, opposite Complast, Old Mombasa Road, Monday to Saturday, 8:00 to 17:30, or order for countrywide delivery at a flat KSh 350, free on orders over KSh 15,000. Contractors and resellers buying by the carton can request a trade quote on our trade page. If you are not sure which one suits your job, message us on WhatsApp with a photo of the gap or joint.

Common questions

What is the price of KNICKER PU foam in Kenya?

KSh 500 a can, or KSh 6,750 a carton, at our Nairobi counter.

Is polyurethane foam the same as PU foam?

Yes. PU is short for polyurethane. Expanding PU foam in an aerosol can is the building product in this guide. It is not the flexible polyurethane foam used in mattresses and seats, which we do not sell.

Is the cheapest foam good enough?

For filling cavities, pipe holes and gaps that will be covered, a budget foam does the job. Pay more when you are setting door frames, where a stable foam matters, or when the job needs published figures.

How many cans do I need for a door frame?

It depends on the gap, so no maker gives a per-door figure. Akfix's 30 to 45 litre yield for the 805 is a guide to how far a can goes. Buy one more can than you think you need: a part-used straw can rarely survives for the next job.
