Where an adaptor cannot reach, a corded extension does the job. The MODI MD-HWA9030-30 is a three-way extension socket on three metres of cable, built for household and light commercial use rather than for occasional indoor duty only.

The lead is PVC 3 core by 1.25mm, terminated in a British Standard 1363 plug, and the block is rated 13 amps maximum at 250V, 50/60Hz with a maximum power rating of 3250 watts. Insulation resistance is quoted at 5 megohms minimum. Housing is ABS with copper contacts, which is the combination that decides how well an extension survives repeated plugging and unplugging over a few years.

Three metres suits a desk set back from the wall, a TV unit, a workshop bench or a kitchen worktop appliance. The same MD-HWA9030 model is also made in a 5m cable length, so an installer can match the run to the room. Treat the 3250W figure as the ceiling for everything plugged in together, not per outlet.
