Socket Prices in Kenya: What Each Point Costs, and How to Budget a Whole House
A single switched 13A socket costs KSh 110 to KSh 310 a point in Kenya, depending on the range: KSh 110 in MODI Bakelite, KSh 140 in M1 white, KSh 170 in B1 Glossy grey and KSh 280 to KSh 310 in M2. A double socket runs from KSh 225 to KSh 545, a socket with USB and Type-C charging from KSh 390, and a 45A cooker unit with socket from KSh 600. Socket plates for a whole two-bedroom house come to roughly KSh 5,300 in M1 white or KSh 10,800 in M2 gold, before cable, breakers and labour. Buying by the full carton takes 10% off the piece price.
Price per point across the four MODI ranges
These are our current piece prices, per plate, in KSh. A dash means we do not list that point in that range. B1 Glossy is shown in glossy grey only, as that is the finish we currently price. Two patterns are worth noticing. In M1, colour costs a little more than white on power sockets (KSh 70 more on a single, KSh 100 more on a double) but nothing extra on data plates. In M2, gold and grey are only KSh 25 to KSh 30 above white, but M2 as a range costs roughly double M1 on most points. The USB and Type-C plates show one of the widest spreads: KSh 390 in Bakelite against KSh 940 in M2 gold for a single.
Floor sockets
Floor sockets sit outside the wall ranges. The MODI MD-HWA3004 power and data floor socket and the MD-HWA3003 two-way floor socket are both KSh 1,400 a piece, or KSh 30,240 for a carton of 24 (KSh 1,260 each). What a whole house costs in plates
The schedules below are illustrative counts for a modest house, not an electrical design. Your electrician sets the real numbers, and how to choose sockets and switches covers where points go. M1 white is the lowest-priced range here that covers every point on the schedule, and M2 gold the highest-priced, so those are the two compared. M2 has no white double, which is another reason gold is the like-for-like comparison.

These totals cover the socket plates only. They do not include switches, back boxes, cable, conduit, the consumer unit or breakers, or labour, which together will usually cost considerably more than the plates. Treat the figures as the socket line on a wider quote.
One middle route is M1 white throughout and M1 gold or black in the sitting room only. On the 2-bedroom schedule, upgrading four singles and two doubles in the lounge adds KSh 480.
Carton prices for contractors
Every MODI socket listed here is also sold by the carton at 10% below the piece rate. Carton sizes are 100 pieces for singles, single USB plates, 25A, TV and data points, and 50 for doubles, double USB plates and cooker units.

For a block of ten 2-bedroom flats in M1 white on the schedule above, the sockets come to KSh 52,550 at piece prices. Taking the 100 singles as one carton and 50 of the 60 doubles as another brings that to KSh 49,900, a saving of KSh 2,650.
